The Group is delighted to announce that Ciaran Coady, a plumber working with the Group has won a gold medal in the World Skills Competition in Leipzig, Germany.

Having won the National Apprentice Competition  in 2012 /2013, Ciaran was selected to represent Ireland in the World Skills Competition. He overcame strong competition from competitors representing 25 of the most industrialised countries in the world to bring gold back to Ireland.

Ciaran has gained a wide range of craft experience on a number of large construction projects including Johnson and Johnson Vistakon.

The Group has a long and proud tradition of craft training  in the mechanical and electrical fields. This tradition was initiated and fostered by our Chairman, Chris Jones who recently passed away. He would have been extremely  proud of Ciaran’s success. At present the group is the largest trainer of mechanical and electrical apprentices in Ireland with almost 200 craft apprentices currently in training at any one time.

The skill and dedication which has characterised the training in the Jones Engineering Group has produced a previous gold medal winner, Simon Watson in 1980/1990 and many national winners over the years.

Jim Curley CEO of the Jones Engineering Group said that “Ciaran displayed excellent skills and determination in winning this competition. It is a testament to his hard work and dedication that he achieved this prestigious award and demonstrates that the standard of training and craftsmanship in Ireland is amongst the highest in the world”.

Construction Industry Federation Director General, Tom Parlon said “This win demonstrates the time and effort that Irish Construction companies are still prepared to invest in the training and development of the craft skills. Out of the 52 countries participating, Ireland achieved 11th place overall in the competition ahead of UK and Germany.
