Our Lean Champions

Our Lean Champions introduced an internal magazine called the LEAN Times with Issue 1 published in September 2014.

November’s edition of the LEAN Times, Issue 33, has just been released and keeps us up to date with some new innovations that have come from our staff which are helping to streamline some of our current projects.

  • We have real synergy in our “A Better Way” suggestion box scheme, with a winner from both Mechanical and Electrical divisions. Each of the winners received a “One4all” voucher for coming up with ideas that have streamlined repetitive activities in their areas.
  • A slick “running rail” installation helped the crew in Athlone save time and energy on a recent duct install. The crew were able to realise an increase in efficiencies of 30% in both time and cost, by using this method to install 140m of 1m diameter heavy steel duct along an elevated pipe rack.
  • Continuous Improvement in the plastics fabrication workshop has led to some re-arranging of the work areas and created better material flow. By talking to and observing the crew working in the plastics fabrication area, we realised that time was being lost and additional energy expended, due to the path that material had to follow during fabrication. Re-organising the workshop into a U shaped cell and standardising the fabrication methods has increased productivity and decreased fabrication times. A win, win for all concerned!

The Lean Champions also met The All-Ireland Champions this month, when Dub star James McCarty paid a visit to the Collinstown office with “Sam”.
