JES awarded Maintenance Excellence Award for second year in a row
Jones Engineering Services were awarded a Certificate in Maintenance Excellence at the recent MEETA Awards. Ian Davy, Contracts Manager outlines the nature of the project, and also the biggest challenges and achievement’s

A team of Engineers, Supervisors, Technicians and Craftsmen under the direction of the Jones Engineering Services Contracts Manager carry out the work in partnership as outlined in the comprehensive Service Level Agreement (SLA) with the Client – Diageo Global Supply.  There has been a noticeable cultural shift in terms of the ACMT’s attitude to Health and Safety over the past number of years, moving it from a mere occupational requirement to a lifestyle.  This has been achieved by giving the craftsmen complete ownership of the work in terms of planning and risk assessments.

SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment & Quality) has become a core value of the ACMT’s work ethic, and as a result of the near miss reporting system and the white board meetings an atmosphere of open and honest dialogue has been created.  The following improvements have been suggested and introduced through these tools in an effort to safe guard all concerned in the work place over the past 12 months:

  • SHEQ Circles
  • Permit issuer & acceptor training
  • Incident & Injury Free awareness
  • P & ID and Plant orientation
  • Permitting of sub-contractors
  • Introduction of a standard RA/MS for all concerned
  • LOTO – lockboxes & tagging system.
  • SMBWA (in conjunction with the client)

The key to our progress we believe is the adoption of the “Incident & Injury Free” mentality, it has encouraged our team to look at every task no matter how routine as a new task with new risks each time; this has ensured a safer working environment by thinking “and indeed looking” outside of the box.

The past 12 months of the Service Level Agreement have been an incident and injury free working environment resulting in excess of 3,000 person days of Zero Harm.  This we believe is as a result of the dedication and commitment of the team.
