JESA: Benefitting from Information Sharing

Information sharing is a vital component in the process of Continuous Improvement in any organisation. Above is a photo of JESA Project Team Members Muhammed Nur and MD Bepu using the Swiftnut Tool in the Riyadh Metro 1B2 train station in Saudi Arabia. This was first discovered by Construction Manager Paddy Smith on the National Children’s Hospital site, Dublin, and reported in the LEAN Times 49.

This small tool that attaches to a screw gun and runs a nut up a threaded rod in a fraction of the time it would take by hand has proven to be a huge success on this site.

In February we reported the Project Team on the Riyadh site were installing 18,430m of pipe, 208,000m of wiring, cable trays, conduits, cable ladders and 13,102 m2 of ducting. This is all supported on 100’s of trapeze brackets. Normally it would take hours winding up the nuts for each level on these types of brackets. The Swiftnut tool runs a screw up in seconds and has been such a time-saver that the crews in Riyadh have requested several more. This is a classic example of information sharing and shows there is always “A Better Way”.
