Statkraft Largest Battery Storage Facility in Ireland
Located near Tarbert, Co. Kerry, the Irish unit of Norwegian utility Statkraft has completed the largest Battery Storage facility in Ireland. We managed the PSCS (Project Supervisor Construction Stage) role for the overall project and our scope included integration of the battery system to the existing 110kV substation and grid connection and civil works.
The project consisted of the installation of 26MW (expandable to 40MW) of Lithium ion BESS (Battery Electrical Storage Systems) providing grid stabilisation services for the national grid. It is the largest of its kind to have been built in Ireland and the BESS is an example of a relatively new technology. These services are required in order to increase the level of renewable energy sources on the grid.
We are very proud to have worked on this landmark Irish project and we wish the team well with the commissioning and testing works scheduled for the coming months.
